Students, faculty and staff,
As we continue to carefully monitor weather conditions, the National Weather Service has noted the incoming of freezing rain this afternoon, resulting in the accumulation of ice this afternoon and evening, into tomorrow.
Due to the potential impact on campus and the threat of hazardous road conditions, in-person classes that begin at 1 p.m. or later today, Thursday, January 18, 2024 are canceled. Classes already scheduled to be online will continue as planned.
Harrington Place Dining will be open and operational today until 8 p.m. All other retail dining locations will close at 2 p.m.
Stay indoors as much as possible and use extreme caution if you must venture outside or travel. Remember to be aware of the forecast, monitor conditions via local media and/or mobile weather apps and be careful.
In addition, the following adjustments will be made to University operations for tomorrow, Friday, January 19:
Out of an abundance of caution, and recognizing the potential challenges faculty, staff and commuting students may still be experiencing as a result of this week’s winter weather, the option to shift to synchronous or asynchronous virtual learning is at the discretion of each respective professor. Instructors will reach out to students by email with details about tomorrow’s class structure.
Other important items to note:
- Employees, please work with your supervisor to confirm appropriate office coverage and use discretion in making the decision to travel to campus.
- Tomorrow, Friday, January 19, Harrington Place Dining will open during normal hours from 7:15 a.m. until 8 p.m., with all other retail locations making announcements about their operations as information is available.
- Everyone on campus is strongly encouraged to stay on the walkways that have been cleared of ice and snow by our facilities team. You may need to alter your “normal” pedestrian route and take only paths that have been cleared.
- Please be aware that refreezing is occurring quickly. Primary attention is being focused on clearing main, necessary thoroughfares, such as sidewalks leading to Harrington Place Dining. Please use extreme caution when walking or driving on campus.
In addition, the information listed below outlines how to connect with support services on campus.
