Biography
My field is American literature and Cultural Studies.
With an interdisciplinary degree from George Washington University, Charmion Gustke combines writing, reading, and social action through her teaching both on campus and abroad. As Coordinator of the First-Year Seminar program, she works across the university to integrate intellectual virtues, character formation, and academic rigor into students' first-year experience. Her dedication to literature as a catalyst for personal growth is evident in her scholarship, which examines the intersections of literature and cultural studies, especially focusing on the works of Willa Cather and Henry David Thoreau. Aiming to connect scholarly research with community involvement, Gustke actively collaborates with organizations like Thistle Farms, The Nashville Food Project, Hope Station, and Equal Chance for an Education. Her work has been published in Cather Studies, The Willa Cather Review, The Concord Saunterer, The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Urban Literary Studies, and Resources for American Literary Study.
