How did your time at BU prep you for a day in the life at your job?

Most of my week is spent on photoshoot sets, collaborating with photo stylists to bring our clients’ brands to life. These days are fast-paced, creative, collaborative and so fun! Since we work with such a variety of brands, each day and shoot looks totally different. On non-shoot days, I spend my time retouching galleries, meeting with clients and stylists to plan upcoming shoots and earning all there is to know about lighting techniques!

While in college, I had the opportunity to complete several internships/jobs in the photography space. This gave me a jump-start on understanding my industry and equipped me with knowledge that I still use in my current job.

You were recently selected for Thingtesting’s Industry Watch List. What does this achievement mean to you?

I am so proud of the work I’ve been creating recently, and it is incredibly validating to have that work recognized on such a big stage. Being still so early into my career, this recognition is especially encouraging and it affirms that I am pursuing the right career. It was also so humbling to be featured alongside industry leaders who are doing great work at national brands.

How would you describe the environment at Belmont/in the College of Art?

The environment in the Watkins College of Art was very individualized. My professors encouraged me to pursue what I was passionate about and always let me tailor my projects to topics and artistic styles that I was interested in. So many art professors were instrumental to my time as a student – Christine Rogers, Julia Steele, Ginny Chambers, Rachel Boillot and Robin Paris all impacted me! I am so sincerely grateful for the individualized support and wisdom that I received from each of them.

How did going to school in Nashville impact your college experience?

When I think of my time in college, I think of the people I spent my time with and the places where we spent that time. Nashville holds so many places that became special to me. Truly, college just wouldn’t have been the same without Portland Brew and Baja Burrito.

Any advice you’d give to students who want to pursue a career in photography?

Never stop experimenting. If you get too comfortable doing things a certain way, you won’t continue to learn and grow. Push yourself to try new techniques, dig deeper where you’re interested and always keep playing. Most of my best work has come from trying something new in the moment.
