Belmont University College of Law American Inn of Court – Mentorship Program
First year students are provided a mentoring and learning opportunity through participation in Belmont University College of Law's American Inn of Court. The Inn is an association of federal and state judges, lawyers in private practice, corporate counsel, government lawyers, and law professors drawn from all segments of Middle Tennessee’s legal community. The Belmont Inn is unique in the sense that every law student participates in the Inn during the first year.
Patterned after the English Inns of Court that began in 1292, an American Inn of Court is a group of judges, attorneys, professors of law, and law students who meet periodically to discuss issues of interest to the legal community. Today, the American Inns of Court is the fastest growing legal organization in the country. Belmont’s affiliation with the organization demonstrates an important part of the College of Law’s emphasis on practical skills, ethics, and professionalism.
The Inn holds seven meetings throughout the school year. In addition to attending the monthly meetings, each member serves as a mentor to first-year law students to help introduce them to the practice of law.
