Welcome to Data Governance at Belmont
Data is an asset of the University that can be invaluable in assessing the health of the institution, monitoring strategic initiatives and carrying out daily business processes. Although there are staff members who oversee certain pieces of data, the data itself are owned by the university and as such should be leveraged in an integrated program to ensure its reliability, effectiveness and security. High quality data can increase accuracy and reduce the risk of non-compliance with governmental and other agencies such as accreditation bodies and the NCAA and increase user confidence in reports.
Data Governance is an organized system designed to manage data resources in the most efficient and effective way and enable the development of a strong business intelligence program. The purpose of data governance is to ensure that data are created, maintained and used in a manner which provides the best value to the institution. The scope of data governance includes data security, integrity, accuracy, business process management, data policies and documentation. In order to be effective, it must be a collaborative effort involving Institutional Research, Information Technology and functional areas.
